Arturo Garcia responds to Henry Cavill as Superman with a call for casting Rashida Jones as Lois Lane.

I am sure it shocks you none that I love the idea. Of course, I wanted a Hispanic Peter Parker for the new SpiderMan movie, since the only things that Peter has to be are a nerd, a New Yorker, and deeply attached to his family. There's really no ethnic group that has a monopoly on that.

I also want a black Flash Gordon, as I may have mentioned before, so maybe I just like reboots.

It's back, what with there still being a war on.

So has anyone read Wonder Woman 600?

I can't help but think this is actually like the myth of New Coke - introduce a new version just to make people complain how they want the old one back.

I have to agree that if the new backstory does remove the Amazons and make her just another "all my family is dead/I am the last of my kind" hero, that is kind of disappointing.

As far as the outfit goes, I think I've mentioned before that I prefer something that feels more iconic, but am happy to see the stars and stripes parts toned down, even if Fox News says it is a lack of patriotism. Oh, and also a sign of the problems with strident feminism.

This first issue of Arpeggio, a new web comic, is based on a real-life incident involving someone I know.

I leave it as an exercise to my readers whether the musician I know actually gave the response in question, or just inspires people to think she would have given the response in question.

Some sensuous photography from Zhang Jingna (the site has some very nice things)

On the motion picture side of things, Chromakey is everywhere

I sort of knew they did a lot of CGI background work, but had no idea just how extensive it is even for seemingly mundane shots.

The shot lengths in movies are approaching the pink noise ratio of 1/f - a ratio found in many parts of nature and possibly the rhythm of the brain, according to a recent study. This may help make them more grippy, even if it doesn't make them better.

And as long as we are talking movies, an argument in favour of piracy.

Finally, a series of gender-swapped superheroes from the annual calendar at PortalComic, assessed by the people at Comics Alliance.

Some are fun, and the line about Rebel being "like if Shawn Michaels got super-powers in 1992" is very funny. But for me, the crowning glory of the piece is definitely Cross-gender Asterix and Obelix!!
