Medical Image librarian/archivist job
Oct. 7th, 2011 01:02 pmDoes anyone know a librarian or archivist type with medical knowledge looking for a job? My company is considering creating a position for someone to organize and maintain a bank of medical images, animations, and references. It's all a bit up in the air right now, but we in the content department are pushing for hiring an actual trained person and not foisting it on an intern for two months with no follow through.
This would be Montreal-based.

Diner en Blanc
Aug. 19th, 2011 09:28 amWe almost missed it because Kitty crashed from lack of sleep, but made it in the end. Given the vast amounts of unpreparedness of the organizers, we probably didn't even have to rush.
If I do this again, my group is planning to account for the organizers' lack of planning.
It was ok, in the end. The music was desperately bad and too loud, but overall it was fine and very pretty to see.
Also:
Intrigued, happy stares at me dressed all in elegant white last evening? Amusing
Slightly disapproving stares at me dressed all in elegant white coming home this morning? More amusing.

Gordon Ramsay Rotisserie Laurier review
Aug. 12th, 2011 10:38 amFaeya has a detailed review and I would say I pretty much agree across the board.
Terrible service and slightly overpriced for what it is.
However, the chicken proper is excellent. (As is the chicken pot pie.)
The smoked meat mac and cheese was wonderful (although as a side only, it is pricey for just a ramekin) as was the creamed spinach. (I'd run the spinach through the blender one more pulse, myself.)
Nothing else impressed, with the well-reviewed poutine clocking in as spectacularly mediocre and the crab rolls being actively bad.

The Suspenders (Braces) in Question
Aug. 11th, 2011 12:51 pmThat's my black dress shirt, too.
Never got it back, either. Of course, she does go by the name Magpie.
In other news, not sure I will be trying out Gordon's new restaurant tonight after all.
(Seems he's not around, anyway, so it isn't like I can pick an argument with him.)

Moving Day
Jun. 30th, 2011 08:10 pmI am quite tired, so no elaborate moving stories. Those of you on facebook saw most of it in real time anyway.
+ The movers were prompt, efficient, and even a bit snarky.
- The place had not really been cleaned.
+ I inherited furniture and plates and wine glasses.
- It is possible it has bedbugs.
+ The Landlord already knew of the infestation next door and arranged to spray today. (Hoping to make it before I moved in, but that part didn`t work out.)
- Have to avoid the spray and so am crashing elsewhere.
So now I need to dig up the apartment planning software misskitty79 sent me and see if I can lay out my new digs some. Tomorrow will be the first real unpacking and moving of furniture.
The day did end on a good note, however, due to a phone call.
She: "Would you like to be our official photographer next season?"
Me: "Why yes, yes I would."

Les Cinq As
Apr. 29th, 2011 12:09 pmSo while the birthday picnic seems increasingly unlikely, at least next week I do have a photo job. The Ensemble Contemporain de Montreal+ has the first presentation of Les Cinq As on Wednesday the 4th.
Since they ended up using some of the photos I took of last year's Madame Merveille (the comic book opera based on my sister's libretto), they offered to hire me to shoot this performance. I'm excited to actually have a reason to rent a lens and try something new. (The rental will probably eat up my entire fee, but that's ok.)
For those interested in going and trying some contemporary music, I have some discount coupons.:

Birthday Picnic?
Apr. 27th, 2011 04:51 pmThe Thunder is supposed to be done by Friday, and while I don't think Tam-tams really starts yet, but the weather is supposed to be cloudy but decent and I was thinking for my birthday proper I could perhaps throw down a quilt, bring some food, and whoever wants to hang out for a while would be free to do so?
The other option that occurred to me is to take in the tail end of this literary festival I had no idea was going on.

Time to go
Mar. 28th, 2011 08:56 pmSo it is official, I will be leaving this apartment. I have a month to confirm that, but I should just probably warn them ASAP.
So, once again, I'm looking for a place. I'd like a 4 1/2 if possible, although a 3 1/2 is ok with decent storage and layout. I'd like not to go past $750, but am flexible for something lovely.
Near enough to public transport to make it worth my while, but otherwise flexible about what section of town. Am open to NDG down to Verdun, just because it seems I know more people there and it isn't like I'm hip enough for the Plateau anyways.
So keep your eyes out and if you know something, cool.
I am looking to not have a roommate, but have not ruled it out if it means a great place and someone cool.
Side note - yes, the lightcastle.net email is down. Hosting stopped while I was fighting with the bank and I will renew when I get the credit card. Then I will actually follow through and put up a site proper.

A date offer
Mar. 23rd, 2011 09:52 amI got invited to drinks Friday night by one of my co-workers.
She had sent the email to the wrong person.
About sums things up.
Those who will actually be in Montreal this weekend might want to go to the First You Get the Sugar single launch at O Patro Vys on Friday.

Auf der Maur
Mar. 12th, 2011 05:51 pmI went to the Melissa Auf der Maur show at La Tulipe last night.
It was part of the Festival Voix D'Ameriques. It was great (as one would expect) although you know I am likely to be fond of any piece that references Joseph Campbell, David Lynch, and a duet with a disembodied Danzig.
I tried getting pictures, but anyone who has taken a stab at concert photography knows how hard it is to get decent angles and decent light.

( More beneath the cut )
I'll try to put up some shots of "In the Pines" later. They were the opening act - a folksong project based on the poetry of Alice Notley, and very interesting.

Hope in Chaos (Play reminder)
Oct. 14th, 2010 12:39 amI'm in a play! One about 9/11! I'm in the funny bits!
(Seriously, it has funny bits.)
SIMONSMITH THEATRE is proud to present the world premiere production of Hope in Chaos by Heather M. McCuen at the Mainline Theatre this October 2010. Based on McCuen’s experience as a member of a New York State Senate-sponsored Disaster Task Force deep inside the chaos of Ground Zero directly following 9/11, Hope in Chaos recounts the team’s efforts to make sense of what has happened to their city. Then, tracked down by a reporter, Hope reveals her struggle to reconcile her time in Ground Zero with where her life has ended up ten years later.
Ticket information on the Mainline Site.
I'd love to see you there. (Out of towners can negotiate for crash space and I'll see what I can find you.)

Things I Need
Sep. 21st, 2010 07:30 pmOne of the persistent problems with living alone is that so many things require two hands. Also, since the bank won't even give me a secured credit card due to my destroyed credit score, my room to maneuver is somewhat constrained.
Given all that, here are some things I need:
- Someone to help me move my bed.
- Shelves
- Someone to help me put up shelves
- Computer desk
- Curtain rods to hang backdrops.
- Someone to help put up curtain rods

No CTV - meh
Aug. 31st, 2010 11:23 pmCTV did come, in fact, but it is for a segment on the production company that will air next week some time.
I leave you instead with Hipster Shrugged, for those of you who find such things amusing.
