In Boston, Melebeth was kind enough to lend me a cheap portable couch that folded out into something resembling a bed. It became semi-legendary as the people-eating couch, as it had no real structure and just sort of collapsed around you.

Today, I dropped by my new place to pick up the keys and make sure all was copacetic. It turns out the old tenant left some things. One of them appears to be the people-eating couch, which I thought I had left on the curb in Boston for people to take.

It's a good thing I am not the type to read messages and stories into things...

OK, not really iron workers, but certainly someone with a good sense of how metal bits fit together. Now that I have my mattress, I should set up my bed, and I suspect the amount of ratcheting involved will annoy me if I find I am not sure what bit goes where.

Mattress and bookshelves were moved in today, so the place is almost looking like it is inhabited now. (I got to unpack a bunch of boxes now I have somewhere to put them.)

Still need to get the computer desk shipped.

Also, some kind of coffee table or small end tables are in order, I think. I'd love ones that also serve as storage chests, but I'm not sure I can find that.

So yes, it's official, I have a contract in hand for a medical writer position. (This might move towards an editing position fairly quickly, depending on how things go.)

This is a good thing, although I will still be cash strapped for the next month or so until I get an actual paycheque.

In other news, I am still looking for a ride to KG, as I would particularly like to go.

Finally, I am still looking for someone with a van or truck, as I would like to collect a mattress, a desk, and some bookshelves.

Cable disconnected, mail forwarding set. Time to start shifting stuff to the curb.

I think the thing I am most upset about is all the wasted food this will result in.
lightcastle: Lorelei Castle (Default)
The place looks much worse than it is, since things just need to be carted out for the most part.

Still.
Need coffee.

I do believe that everything I intend to take is actually in a box or otherwise put aside.
Everybody who has expressed interest in getting stuff from me, I will put your things aside. The rest is headed to the curb for the students to pick over. (Hopefully some people need paper shredders and wireless routers and the like.)

Anyone know a good place canned food and the like can be donated? I figure the leftovers should feed people, since no one I know wanted staples.

At least the lights found a happy home.

Everything that's going is almost packed. I need to do a little re-arranging for space if I can.

After that, hopefully everything people have claimed can go into orderly piles for them to get, and the rest can start making its way to the street for the students to descend upon like vultures.

The rain does not mean people aren't still invited to come over, claim knives and food processors and baking goods and nicknacks, etc, this afternoon. Help and company still warmly accepted.

Plus, there is wine to drink.

aerynne and I attempted a picnic as a farewell dinner. Sadly, the sun had already set (and quite lovely it was, too).

The result? Bugs.

After she smacked me twice in the head in a vain attempt to help me, we gave up and went somewhere indoors, which is vastly less picnic-y.

In addition to all the other things, I have a kitchen table for those who might want it.

Work gloves, an iPod arm band, etc.

I have three floor lamps that are in need of a good home.

I may also be in need of someone willing to hold a box or two for awhile after I move. I would pay for them to be media-mailed to me later.

I have too much wine I need to drink before I go.

Some recommended an event so that people could RSVP.

Done.

Just collecting links to the previous "stuff" posts, with updates of what has been taken/claimed.

Still more likely to be put up at some point.

I intend to have a "grab the last dregs and possibly drink the last alcohol" farewell party the 29th, if anyone cares to show up.

Foodie friends of mine (and yes, I might be looking at sparkymonster in particular) might want to note that in addition to all kinds of random kitchen things I am getting rid of, I have to eat my way though my pantry, which I doubt I'll accomplish. While things that remain sealed might go with me, things that are opened but unfinished should probably go to a good home. (The kind of home that likes spices and herbs and salts and such.)
