Catching up - Dollhouse 2.01 and 2.02

Thanks to rayaluna, I have disks of Dollhouse to catch up on. Hopefully I will soon be at a point where all of you who have had to bite your tongues around me will no longer need to do so. (I don't consider "I didn't see that coming" a real spoiler in a Whedon show, since I *expect* at least one, if not two reveals of new villains and/or changes of character direction.)
Some random spoilers and speculation below.
Please don't answer these with spoilers if possible, thanks.
1) Our good Senator's American accent is distracting. Last time we saw someone getting anonymous Dollhouse tips it was presumably Alpha guiding Ballard. (Although some of that might have been Dominic trying to misdirect.) Either way, I'm pretty sure the Senator is being used one way or another.
Option one is that it is another shot by Alpha somehow. Mind you, I'm not sure why Alpha needed Ballard in Season One, so I'm not too sure about this.
Option two is that Ballard is sending it, still trying to bring the Dollhouse down from the outside as well as from in.
Option three is the Dollhouse disabling a threat by discrediting it. Giving the real path and then providing another explanation makes the real version of events easier to dismiss.
Of course, there is always the possibility it is a real investigation and we have a new player on the scene, but that doesn't seem very Whedonesque.
2) Echo has memories. I'm ok with this, it gives us a way to move character development forward. I prefer to think that this slow-moving composite event is what actually caused the problem in "Instinct" and not "OMG I have girl parts and so am crazy". The confluence of Topher adding some other layers, plus her already-established ability to remember are making wipes less solid.
3) I adore Whiskey and what happened there. Since she shows up in the future flashbacks from Epitaph One, I presume she will return. The very departure immediately makes her a candidate for this year's Big Bad Reversal Reveal.
4) I was happy to see November/Madeline again. I loved Ballard looking so uncomfortable (as he should). Given the head trauma causing memory returns in the first episode, I couldn't help but wonder if that cut on her head is foreshadowing.
5) I want Boyd back front and center. I like him a lot more than I like Ballard.
