The script for Avatar 2 pretty much writes itself, doesn't it?
[Interior: Bridge of the orbital ship circling Pandora. Important People are arrayed at the table in the time-honored tradition of those in power holding court on those who come in supplication or apology. The room is stark, gleaming - the Important People are on screens, not even present. Seated in front of the screens is Parker Selfridge, who is wrapping up his presentation.]
SELFRIDGE: As you can see, the Na'vi have proved hostile to a degree we couldn't anticipate. They have confiscated the equipment we were forced to leave behind and have renounced all attempts at a negotiated settlement. I see no other option.
IMPORTANT PERSON #1: Will the unobtanium be damaged by such an approach?
SELFRIDGE: Massive carpet bombing of the home tree did no observable damage. We're still in orbit around Pandora, and we have enough explosive and defoliant to begin the work now. It's a tragedy, or course, but we were never here for the biosphere. The fauna is vicious and the atmosphere toxic. It's a necessary sacrifice but we now have the location of their "Soul tree" - which is nowehre near any unobtanium.
IMPORTANT PERSON #2: Do you think that a targeted attack would work?
SELFRIDGE: It's possible. If you will commit to sending further supplies, we can start now. We drop repeated daisy-cutters from orbit on the tree. If that doesn't demoralize them, we continue with the defoliants when supplies arrive.
IMPORTANT PERSON #3: It does seem unfortunate, but given the obvious hostility of the natives and their massacre of human personnel, it is clear they brought this on themselves. Proceed.
SELFRIDGE: Thank you, sirs.
[Scene of Pandora being firebombed in awesome 3D CGI]
The End.
