I've been sort of surprised be how few "end of year and decade" lists/reviews I've seen. Maybe it would just all be too depressing.

I think that the lack of decade identity (aughts? naughts? Os?) is what's put a damper on best-of-the-decade lists.

Heh. That may well be part of it. I've mostly seen "the aughts" or "the naughts" (and sometimes the "naughty naughts").

It does seem to lack some "snap".
