Now that Obama has actually kept one of his campaign promises - escalating in Afghanistan - it might be good to go and look at the gradual spread of US military forces across the globe since Truman.

But since that is sad, a cute kitty video.

One hundred years ago today, in the aftermath of a fight over money, le Club de Hockey Canadien (aka The Habs, La Sainte-Flanelle, Le Tricolore, Les Glorieux (or Nos Glorieux), and The Montreal Canadiens)was formed. They may never rise to the glorious heights they once had - and certainly won't this season - but until the recent Yankees resurgence, they were the most successful team in any of the 4 major North American sports.

They are a part of the national heritage. Note that a passage from a short story about wanting a team sweater is on the Canadian 5 dollar bill design from 2002.

Sadly, they will almost certainly be defeated in a humiliating fashion by their long-time rivals, The Boston Bruins, tonight in their 100th anniversary game.
