How?
Dear lord, maery started doing eyeliner and I teared up like my cat had just died. It's madness. Do you just get used to it? Am I super sensitive for some weird reason? I think my eyes are still red and burning.

If it was liquid eyeliner and you have the option, also try a cream stick one, which is less likely to run into your eyes.
Meanwhile, try antihistamine and a warm teabag - black tea - over your closed eye to make it feel better.
Do you wear contacts? That could also be making you more sensitive to any sort of fumes or matter in your eyes.
