[photos] - Halloween
Nov. 3rd, 2009 07:11 pmI'll put them on Flickr with some proper editing in the future, but here they are just loaded up thoughtlessly.
[photos] - lighting question
Oct. 21st, 2009 10:24 amSo it seems it would behoove me to match lighting as much as possible for the shoot. (Given the wildly changing lighting from pre- to post-sunset, it isn't going to be one thing throughout. I mostly took three approaches (two are pretty similar) to tweaking the lighting for the last, dark part and am soliciting suggestions as to which people prefer.

Leave comments here please, it will be easier to tally. (By all means feel free to go and comment on the Flickr page if you want to, though.

[photos] - Chapel Shoot (end)
Oct. 20th, 2009 10:51 amWell, end as in they are all up. I still might subject people to voting on subsets here since it seems you *can't* comment on the flickr photos without an account.
I'm thinking I will stick with the colour tone that I've mostly labeled "c" in these. (Although sol3's suggestion of getting rid of the chroma noise by converting to B&W is tempting, especially for these later shots.)
As always, click through the whole gallery and feel free to offer opinions on which of the many similar shots are absolute keepers and which can be scrapped. I am likely taking photogeek_mtl's advice and whittling it down to a flirty story within shoot, and so overly-similar poses will be pruned.

( A couple more behind the cut )

[photos] - Chapel Shoot (still more)
Oct. 19th, 2009 06:30 pmBy this point the sun had set and so we decided to work with the overhead work light in the side door of the church.
I notice as the light goes, figuring out how to get decent colours becomes more complicated. (Well, this is all about me learning.) I probably should have used the flash more, but I thought I liked the super-saturated colour of the dim light. In retrospect, I think that may have been the wrong trade off, given the noise of such high iso.
This set has lots more duplicates as I try to figure out what I can and can't tweak with the colours - so again, any thoughts/votes on which to keep and which to throw are encouraged.

Oct. 19th, 2009 02:57 pmI think we're hitting the weaker pics as the sun went down and we lost the light.
Again, thoughts on which to keep and which to throw are welcome. (Especially with multiple crops and white balances of the same shot.)

Leave comments on the flickr page linked above or you can leave them here.

Oct. 19th, 2009 01:50 amFollowing up with more of the chapel shoot. As mentioned, I don't think I'm nearly ruthless enough in cutting shoots down, so any votes for "This shot *must* be kept" or "You could drop that one" would be appreciated. (Feel free to comment on the flickr site, just click through the pic to get there, or use the link above.)

Oct. 17th, 2009 06:45 pmI've already pruned this set down to under 100, but I need to do another round of stricter work.
Still, for the moment I am just putting some up bit by bit. (How many *is* a decent amount for a photoshoot in the end? Should I prune down to 20 best and never more than that?)
Lady Magpie looking sassy.

Calibrating a monitor
Oct. 17th, 2009 05:53 pmAnyone know the proper way to calibrate a monitor for colours? I suspect this has something to do with colour management and profiles.
Can anyone point me a proper primer? (Or convince me this is completely irrelevant?) I figure if I am messing with my pictures, I should at least know the colours are accurate.
