No Comedy and a request for some advice.

I was bumped tonight, but it was for the fantastical DeAnne Smith, so I can't be too upset.
Then I got to shoot pool with J__ and D___, so that is a goodness. They came all the way from Ottawa to see me perform. They could not help but note the lack of Montrealers who showed up.
In other news, my friend and ex-roommate adaptively made this post, and so I thought I would gather more advice for her if it is forthcoming from anyone.

ATTN MODELS/PHOTOGRAPHERS: What's Your Best Tip For Being Photographed?
Hey, I know plenty of people who've done really interesting and off-beat work on both sides of the camera, so I'd like to put the hivemind to use.
If you've got a minute, throw me your best tip to make yourself/your subject the most photogenic. (I have an idea for a cute post and am unfortunately incredibly un-photogenic.) Is it how you tilt your chin or the way you apply makeup? Do you call up a mental image or do you have a lighting strategy? Throw me a line with your favorite pre-shoot ritual or miniscule adjustment, and if you include a link to your Model Mayhem/Flickr/portfolio I'll be happy to link back.

Date: 2010-01-23 03:44 pm (UTC)A photographer who gives good direction and knows what zi is looking for. If you like and trust hir, so much, much, MUCH the better. (I find that this is key).
Don't hide your neck (tilt your head back/away-from-the-camera just enough to let your neck show)
Work with the shape of your body:
- If one arm/leg is straight, let the other be bent.
- If one foot is pointing to the side in one direction, let the other be pointing in the other direction, but closer to facing the camera in terms of angles.
- You don't have to look dead-on at the camera and, sometimes it helps not to. (Look past the photographer, rather than at the camera lense, or look in a different direction entirely).
Good shoes (they change the way your body aligns) and good posture
Try not to stare directly into a light-source if you can avoid it. It'll make you squint and/or make your eyes water, and that is no good what-so-ever.
Well-applied makeup that isn't streaky and that plays up your eyes like WOAH.
A flattering hair-do (e.g.: If you have a round face, avoid Princess Leia Buns and similar).
Uh... That's about all I can think of right now.
- TTFN,
- Amazon.
