I labeled this "bland" upon watching last night, thinking perhaps I didn't dislike it as much as I thought and was merely tired and cranky.
A brief email to melebeth convinced me I shouldn't have held back.
This was terrible. I still like Pullman's acting, even if I'm not that interested in his character. (Something might come of it, though.) The doctor is great, and easily the most sympathetic on the show. The PR woman who I now figure is actually behind everything was enjoyably irritating.
Everything else was bad. No signs of character development. More acting as if Torchwood is super badass and everyone in the audience should cheer them just saying their name. (Especially the episode close.) "Science" that makes you want to punch the screen. ("Chelating" does not mean "replacing one toxic element with another".)
I don't have high hopes for this turning around, since it seems to show all the worst tendencies the original Torchwood had, only magnified.
