Changing Loyalties
Feb. 6th, 2011 06:20 pmI have always been a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
I may not be much of a football fan, but the first Superbowl I saw featured the Steelers, and Lynn Swann as the wide receiver with the grace of a ballet dancer. So while I have a soft spot for the Giants and the Jets as a hometown loyalist, my team was always the Steelers.
But this year, I am rooting for Green Bay. Besides my habit of rooting for the underdog, and my fondness for the story of Green Bay's ownership structure, there is the issue of Ben Roethlisberger. If I hear one more analyst talk about his "season of adversity" and pitch winning this game as a redemption, I might break something. Winning a football game doesn't redeem him of anything.
So yeah, Go Packers.
(Yes, I am having the traditional Super Bowl dinner of Steak au Poivre, with profiterolles for dessert.)
