Well, that was a thing. Is it even worth discussing the main story, or just the season arc plot moment?
The main story finished more or less as unimpressively as it began. The bit about remembering the deaths certainly went a long way to explaining Ganger!Jenn's inconsistent behaviour, but it still didn't hang together all that well. What could have been an interesting story about identity and memory just became a "run from the CGI monster-thing", which is a shame.
Of course, it is possible it became that because they thought putting those "who am I really" bits into the other characters would take away from the big reveal of Ganger!Amy. They actually did a nice job of setting it up over time, it was pretty obvious from the first "Breathe" where they were going and it does do a nice job of explaining the Eye Patch lady. I am glad they made it clear the Doctor has known pretty much the whole time, and has been mostly holding off for some reason. (Presumably because interfering before the birth was too risky?)
The implication remains that said child is either the creepy astronaut child/pseudo time lord or River. River really hasn't appeared to be Gallifreyan in any way, so I am assuming they are not the same character. Twins remain a possibility of course.
Next episode is the mid-season cliffhanger, so presumably that will at least set us up for some idea of what the storyline is to be for the back half. Not much point speculating until they put that marker on the table.
