I am really sorry but what bothered me with that XKCD strip and what I think is maybe part of the problem is the woman's perceived attitude. she either is a passive element waiting for things to happen to her, or some crazy wacko who blows things out of proportion from the start ( and I carefully tried not to say raging hormonal bitch... ). Is there realy no middle ground? Is the general north american culture full of women who are either passive door mats or crazy wackos? Bahhh...
In reality, no. Of course not. Women are people. But society does, in fact, tend to portray them as exactly that. So him tapping that very stereotype was irksome.
Then I make a choice, i either fully turn to the guy smiling and such because I want to be hit on by him, or I turn a bit away and ignore him. in 99% of the situations they get a clue and drop it.
I'd say you've had exceptionally good luck then, because just about every woman I know has multiple stories of people just NOT getting that they should drop it. Worse, stating they should drop it is often met by verbal attacks about how much of a bitch you are, and sometimes following and other physically threatening behaviour.
If more men just went "oh" and backed off, this wouldn't be a problem.
I jsut think that society is broken is general when it comes to that.
No argument.
Which had another comment about how some women wont say no because it does not be the proper thing to do. That is where I really don't understand society.
Indeed. But here's the thing, society teaches women that their no won't be respected and often will result in *escalation* from the guy. It's a "dammned if you do, dammned if you don't" situation.
It is just a subject that tends to annoy me each time because I don't understand the situation or the mental state of the people involved.
On one level, that speaks well of you. :) It also, sadly, is not the case for a majority of people I think.
