Obama SOTU

I suppose if it was earlier and fewer people had bought me drinks, I could say something meaningful about this.

I went and watched it with the Democrats Abroad Montreal chapter. Many were very impressed with the brilliance of announcing a 5-year freeze on government spending, because it would insulate him from attack.

I loudly told these people they were idiots.

He did a good job of using broad rhetoric and USian myths to say things that can be interpreted multiple ways. Fine, but I'm kind of sick of him being the North American Tony Blair. I did appreciate the "We will take subsidies from oil and give it to alternative energy" pitch.

It will all depend on follow through, of course, and history is rather dramatically against anything good coming out of that, sadly.

I have a new shiny toy!

I havent' figured out how to use it, since it didn't come with the manual.

Achtung!

So my phone is now in German.
Not in a "Cool! i can change languages way!" but rather in a "I went to the coffee machine, looked at the phone to see if I could find out what my phone number was, and noticed that everything is now in German."
