Anancy, Drama, Technology, and a Picture of the Universe

I had lunch with my friend E__ today, at Anancy - a Jamaican restaurant by her place. Terribly yummy it was. (The Drama is hers. I am actually on the tail end of drama, as now that I have internet I can wrap up that trailing piece.)

Resetting the connections in the desktop seems to have helped with that, which is good, since I have a model coming over Monday to sort some pictures. I am tempted to use this as my replacement.

Does anyone use Sketch Up? I've thought about trying to plot out what to do with my living room with it. (Separately, I am also considering using Page Four as the Windows version of Scrivener. Mind you, CeltX is looking more and more promising.

This article is old, but it looks at the culture of diving in Football, and why different teams have different views on it. To some degree, there is the issue that if you already have a rep, maintaining it makes sense.

That Picture of the Universe

Tremble before the POWER of Nerd Mockery!!!

I know some people who are fond of the Old Testament God. (Well, what they think of as the Old Testament God). I mean, he's got some moves. The smiting, the plagues, the cursing. The whole "make fun of bald men and I will kill you" thing.

Sure, he is also funny and calm and hangs out with his favourite peeps and all, but they mostly think of Old Testy as the Big Smiter.

He's a trip.

But, while that's all well and good, some take the Big Smite's lead and think they get to cruise around town with the intolerance. Big on this list is Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church - aka Assholes, Inc. You may know them from such fine performances as picketing funerals and their infamous website, GodHatesFags.com.

So Ol Freddy went to San Diego to protest ComicCon yesterday. Now a comic convention may not be the height of progressive thought, but there is certainly a hell of a lot of nerd solidarity. Also, there is a packed room of people with too much time on their hands, and a fine sense of the absurd.

The result? Counter-protest of all-out mockery. (More here) And yes, they were chanting "What do we want? GAY SEX! When do we want it? NOW!"

Some of my favorites?
- God Loves Gay Robin
- The Cylons Destroyed the 12 Colonies for your sins
- The Church of the Flying Phone Box
- Odin is God. (Read The Mighty Thor #5)
- All Glory Darkseid Is
- Star Trek guy holding a sign saying "God Hates Jedi"

As has been said by many far wiser than myself - mockery is a tool that should not be shirked in the cause of justice and right. Go forth, good people, and stand not silent in the face of evil, but joke with all your might.

(And yes, this reminds me a bit of the famous Clown Protest of the KKK
